Colombia Soon and DC Photo Recap

A quick update on the wanderlust aspect of this blog… my trip to Colombia is coming up in a week! Our time is short, but we’re spending one day in Bogota, two days in Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona, and two days in Cartagena de Indias… oh lovely! I’m debating about bringing the “big camera” (ie, flashy, expensive camera) – I’m thinking that since we’ll primarily be in tourist areas, it will probably be ok. Still on the fence. Either way, I’ll be sure to share some beautiful pictures!

On another note, we were in DC a couple weekends ago… here are a few snapshots I took.

We spent a day touring the District and monuments…

And another day in some neighborhoods – specifically, most of these pics are from Capitol Hill and the Eastern Market…

And another day hanging out with Eric’s aunt and uncle, exploring Annapolis, MD and eating yummy food…

I’m so excited… Eric and I booked our tickets for the honeymoon this weekend! We’ll be gone for a whole month, first stopping in NYC for a few days, then Seoul, and then finally making our way to Bangkok, which will serve as a base for the rest of the trip. We hope to hit up quite a few spots – Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, and the north of Vietnam), Cambodia (mostly Angkor Wat, unless you have other suggestions..), Thailand (of course, but not sure what we’ll be doing there yet), Malaysian Borneo (this is a recent addition to the trip – not sure we can miss the orangutans!), and then finally, Bali.

We had to add some island time in there. This is, after all, our honeymoon, and while we’re not much for tradition, we still believe in good old fashioned island time for the honeymoon. And yeah, ok, we’ll get island time is Borneo and possibly Thailand, but Bali… Bali… while we’re in the region, I just didn’t feel we could pass it up. And yeah, I’ll admit it, Eat Pray Love had just a little bit to do with that decision.

So, if you’re reading this and if you’ve been to Southeast Asia, let me know what to do!

You know how Tuesdays, in Twitterland, are Travel Tuesday? Well, for me, Wednesday is really the special day. It is on Wednesday that I receive all my weekly travel updates – deals on airfare, hotels, rental cars, and attractions.

Due to the limited time off I can take working this 9-5, I rarely get to take advantage of the mouth-watering deals. And really, there are often so many constraints, black-out dates, time limits, etc, that it makes most deals not really deals at all.

When TravelZoo told me on Wednesday, though, that Mexicana Airlines was offering fares from Chicago to Bogota for $264, I immediately jumped on it. I sent emails my “travel buddies”, and within 24 hours we had bought tickets to Bogota for that advertised price of $264, round trip, including all taxes. Wow!

We’ll be making this trek over Thanksgiving, and I can’t wait! I’m going next week to register for a refresher course in Spanish over the summer, and hopefully after that I’m going to look into online tutoring through SpeakShop.

I’ll keep you posted on what we’re going to do and see! And of course, I will post pictures!
